Knots of Love – An Amazing Charity

January 31, 2016 By: Sharon Frazier

There are some things that just make me smile. I’m talking the deep down, ear-to-ear kind of smile. Chubby babies. The smell of baking bread. The new growth of spring. Well, here’s another one.

These beautiful hats give me that same feeling!

Here’s why:

  1. They’re made of yarn. I love everything made of yarn!
  2. They’re creative. Even a quick glance shows you that each hat is unique, and they were handmade by talented and creative people.
  3. They were made with love and donated to Knots of Love for cancer patients throughout the country.

There are so many great charities out there for yarn crafters, and I am looking forward to working with them all! I’d like to recommend Knots of Love because I have some personal experience with them. My Sweetie is enrolled in a clinical trial at Duke Cancer Center, so we’ve spent quite a bit of time there. While he gets his treatment, I often crochet. Yes, crocheting has helped me so much in dealing with his illness. Sometimes I make hats for patients who are losing their hair, and donate them by placing them in a basket in the treatment area.

The other day, Duke received a HUGE shipment of these beautiful hats and I was fortunate enough to see the nurses’ and patients’ excitement! It was inspiring!!!! I realized that people across the country used their talent and time to create these gorgeous hats to brighten the day of someone they’ll never meet. To see so many of them in one place sent chills down my spine!

Christine at Knots of Love runs a fabulous charity. She has great resources for crafters including types of yarn to use and patterns. When you donate hats, she welcomes you and makes you feel a part of a truly special community. So, please consider donating your talents or your money to help her continue this amazing work!

Thank you, Christine. Making these hats has brought warmth to my heart and love to my efforts. Seeing how they’re received has brought tears to my eyes. Knots of Love is (quite rightly) focused on providing a small measure of integrity for cancer patients, but I have to confess that being a tiny part of this picture has brought a huge measure of joy to me.

And I’m happy to say that my Sweetie is cancer-free! I haven’t slowed down on my crocheting though!

10-Minute Dish Scrubby – Free Crochet Pattern

I bought some of this Red Heart Scrubby Yarn and played around with patterns until I found one that I like. I think it works best when the scrubby is two layers thick so you can hold onto it better. This is a super easy pattern, and it only takes 10 minutes to make one! […]

Hug for Janice Shawl – Free Crochet Pattern

I wanted to make something beautiful for my Sweetie’s Aunt Janice and thought a shawl would be perfect. She lives in the mountains of Virginia, and even when you’re inside this time of year, you can get chilled.  I also loved the idea of a prayer shawl or comfort shawl. It all begins […]
