Hi! Thanks so much for stopping by! My name is Sharon, and I live in Virginia Beach, Va. with my adorable husband, who I call “Sweetie” and my 3 cats.
I spent the bulk of my adult years in advertising sales, really exercising my left-brain. I focused on analytical thinking and created a ton of spreadsheets! I often said things like, “I wish I were more creative,” or “I just didn’t get the creative gene!”
Several years ago I had the opportunity to leave that world behind. I decided to dedicate my new life to developing my right brain and nurturing creativity. The first thing I realized is that I’m not bad at crocheting. I am so proud to say that in September 2015, I received the CGOA Master of Advanced Crochet Stitches and Techniques Certification! Crocheting has gave me the courage to try my hand at other creative projects…some with more success than others!
I’m currently learning how to knit and sew. I’m really pretty terrible at these skills, but I have fun trying! I’ve taken a pottery class and found that I don’t have passion for it…at least not yet. I want to learn to draw and play the piano.
This website is about my journey. I hope it encourages others who, like me, think they’re not creative.
My Philosophy on Hand-Made Gifts
I love making things, and I think others love receiving hand-made items. The quality of the item often depends on 3 factors:
• Skill level
• Time spent on the project
• Quality of the materials used
If you are an expert at the craft, you spend months making it, and use the best of materials, your finished product will be heirloom-quality. But most of us don’t have the time, talent and money to do that!
I look for ideas that require one or even none of these factors to create a beautiful gift. Since my knitting isn’t very good, I often do a simple design with really beautiful yarn. My crocheting is better, so I’ll do a more complex pattern with inexpensive yarn. And the best of all worlds. Sometimes I find an idea that’s so good that I can make it quickly, with inexpensive materials and minimal skill. Jackpot!
